The Department of Science & Technology (DST) is implementing a national program Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) for attracting talented young students to study Science and pursues career in Research. This program is being implemented since 2009-10.
INSPIRE aims to identify, sustain and strengthen human capacity for research and development base of the country. Inspired research achieved by means of an innovative scientific achievement is the flagship scheme of the DST. INSPIRE Program covers students in the age group 10-32 years. It has five major schemes. These are:

i. Scheme for Early Attraction of Talents for Science (SEATS) - INSPIRE Award and INSPIRE Internship,
ii. Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) - INSPIRE Scholarship, and
iii. Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) - INSPIRE Fellowship and INSPIRE Faculty Awards
The first component i.e. INSPIRE Award (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) Scheme, previously known as INSPIRE Award Scheme, is being implemented by State and UT governments with objectives (i) to attract young students to study science and pursue research career (ii) Promoting Creative thinking and foster a culture of innovation among them.
Under INSPIRE Award MANAK Scheme, a financial year, ten (10.0) lakhs ideas are targeted from more than five (05) lakhs of middle and high schools across the country, out of which one (1.0) lakhs of ideas for shortlisted an initial award of Rs. 10000 / - each, for preparation of project / model / showcasing of idea and participation in the District Level Exhibition & Project Competition (DLEPC). The students who are eligible to participate under this scheme should be in the age group of 10-15 years studying in class VI to X. The award money under this scheme is being transferred directly into the bank accounts of students through Direct Benefit Transfer. The selected students in DLEPCs participated in State Level Exhibitions and winners of State Level Exhibitions and participated in the National Level Exhibition organized every year. The participants of the National Level Exhibition are also awarded mentorship for prototype development in association with reputed science and technological organizations of the country. INSPIRE Scholarship - Application Process
The applications for INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) are accepted through the online portal of the INSPIRE Program. Given below is the complete guide to the scholarship.

Step 1: First applicant must register as a new user on the INSPIRE scholarship portal. The candidate must enter his / her name, gender, date of birth, email, password, eligibility criteria and verification code for successful registration.

Step 2: The candidate receives user ID and password on his registered email ID where he / she needs to click on the activation link to activate his / her account.

Step 3: The applicant must be the scanned copies of all necessary documents as separate files before filling the application form.

Step 4: The applicant must log in the INSPIRE scholarship portal using his / her username and password.

Step 5: Now, the candidate must fill in all the details like personal details, enrolment information at B.Sc. and Integrated M.Sc. level, senior secondary performance information, national level competitive examination details, contact details and other details in the scholarship application form.

Step 6: Also, the applicant needs to submit all necessary documents in support of the online scholarship application.

Step 7: The applicant needs to submit the information before the submission of the form by pressing the 'Print Preview' button. He / She must make sure that all the details and uploaded documents are correct.

Step 8: Now, the applicant needs to click on 'Submit' button to submit the application.

Step 9: After the final submission of the online scholarship application form, the candidate must take the print out of the application for his / her record.
